Sakinah: Prayer Times & Qibla
Overview
Sakinah is designed with privacy as a core principle. We do not collect, store, or transmit personal data. Your worship is between you and Allah — we respect that completely.
What Data We Collect
NOT COLLECTED Personal Information
- Personal information (name, email, phone number)
- User accounts or sign-in credentials
- Analytics or usage tracking
- Advertising identifiers
- Raw location data
- Any information about your device
LOCAL ONLY On-Device Data
All data storage is on-device only using GRDB (SQLite):
- Prayer logs (when you manually log prayers)
- Bookmarks (when you save Qur'anic verses)
- Preferences (calculation method, notification settings)
- Quran reading progress
- Azkar counter state
- Ramadan goal settings
This data stays entirely on your device, is never transmitted, and can be deleted anytime via Settings › Data Management.
Location Data
When you grant Location (While Using App) permission:
- Your location is used only to calculate prayer times and Qibla direction
- Location is never stored
- Location is never transmitted to any server
- Location is never shared with third parties
If you deny location permission, you can manually enter coordinates in Settings.
Permissions & Usage
Location (While Using App)
Why: Calculate prayer times and Qibla direction.
Required? Optional, but recommended for accuracy.
Data retention: Not retained; used only for the calculation.
Notifications
Why: Send prayer time reminders and Ramadan alerts.
Required? Optional; you can enable/disable per prayer time.
Apple Watch Sync
Why: Sync prayer logs between iPhone and Apple Watch.
How: Local sync only via WatchConnectivity (Wi-Fi/Bluetooth) — never to servers.
Third-Party Services
Quran Audio & Translations
When you stream Qur'anic audio or download translations, the app may contact:
- Quran Foundation API (primary)
- alquran.cloud (fallback)
These services may log IP addresses as part of normal web server operations. We never transmit your identity, location, or preferences to these services.
For fully offline use: Download translations and audio packs before use — no further network requests are made.
GDPR & CCPA Compliance
GDPR (EU / UK)
- Right to Access: Your data exists only on your device
- Right to Delete: Delete all data via Settings › Data Management
- Right to Portability: Export data as JSON via Settings › Export Data
- Data Transfers: No data leaves your device
CCPA (California)
Since we collect no personal information, CCPA requirements are satisfied. There is no data sharing or sale.
Data Deletion & Retention
User-Initiated Deletion: Delete all data anytime via Settings › Data Management.
Automatic Deletion: Data is never deleted automatically. Your data persists until you manually delete it or uninstall the app.
Server Data: We maintain no servers that store your data.
Security
All data is stored locally using iOS/watchOS encryption (Data Protection). We recommend:
- Keep your device and iOS/watchOS updated
- Use strong authentication (Face ID, passcode)
- Review app permissions in Settings › Privacy & Security
Children's Privacy
Sakinah is appropriate for all ages. We do not knowingly collect data from children. Since we collect no personal information whatsoever, COPPA requirements are satisfied.

Changes to This Policy
